- Nationally, 24% of juveniles in residential placement were being held for property crimes. In comparison, 37% were held for person offenses.
- Person offenders made up 40% or more of the custody population in 20 states and in the District of Columbia.
- States with the highest proportion of property offenders included: Maine (50%), Mississippi (42%), and Montana (41%).
- The proportion of juveniles held for drug offenses ranged from 21% (Maryland) to 3% (Alaska, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Minnesota, Oregon, South Carolina).
