- The CJRP captures information on the number of days since admission for each juvenile in residential placement. These data represent the number of days the juvenile had been in the facility up to the census date (February 24, 2010). Because the data are not based on a release cohort, the complete length of stay cannot be determined.
- The overall median time in placement for juvenile offenders held in juvenile facilities was 70 days in 2010. The median time in placement for male youth (75 days) exceeded the median time in placement for female youth (43 days).
- Among detained juveniles, 37% of males had been in the facility at least 30 days, compared with 25% of females.
- After 180 days, 34% of committed males and 28% of committed females remained in custody.
- Among committed females, 25% remained in placement after 190 days; among committed males, 26% remained after 230 days.
